Excerpts from 'The Last Lecture'

I'm currently reading the book 'The Last Lecture' by Randy Pausch and Jeffrey Zaslow and this stood out and caught my attention:
"When you're screwing up and nobody says anything to you anymore, that means they've given up on you....When you see yourself doing something badly and nobody's bothering to tell you anymore, that's a bad place to be. You may not want to hear it, but your critics are often the ones telling you they still love you and care about you, and want to make you better."
Isn't the above true? Very often, people like to hear the good things about themselves. But it's the people who love you who will bother to tell you your faults in the hope of making you a better person. If they do not love you, they can't be bothered even if you degenerate and waste yourself.
忠言逆耳, 但苦口良药.
