Now, this book is not great in every sense of the word. It's a typical chick-lit that's easy to read. But it does touch my heart as a woman and a mother.
Starting over in a new town, a lady finds herself slowing down after racing in the city that never sleeps, New York. She enjoyed the slower pace of life and even started talking to the animals that she fed; and she found joy in doing that! I have talked to my fish and believe you me, it's kinda therapeutic! I've never thought I'll see the day when I sought comfort in talking to a living thing that cannot reply me. But I did. And it tided me through. Maybe there IS such a therapy that I'm ignorant about. But, what the heck. Be there, be there not. It worked for me, and that's good enough.
Yet another character, a mother of 2, suffered a relapse from cancer. One which left her so weak, she couldn't lift herself off the bed. She fought and won the first battle; but she succumbed to the second one. She died. She was full of life, and full of love for her family. But she left behind her husband and children. At this juncture, I asked myself the question: If I were incapacitated one day and eventually dies while the boys are still young, who is going to take care of them? I realised, to my horror, nobody can. The hubs will do his best. But he won't be able to give them the care they need. He's just not built that way. So I thought (not talked) to God and asked Him to give me some allowance. If He absolutely has to take me away prematurely, please do it only when my boys can be sufficiently self-reliant. I worry for Dallen; I worry even more for Dayen. He's more challenging than his brother, that's for sure. But deep down, he's just fighting for more love.
Love, struggles, loss and a new beginning. That's what this book is about.
