Walking on Sunshine!

Dallen walked for the first time! I've been waiting so long for this day to come. Everyday I'd expect it to be the day he starts to walk on his own. And everyday I'll go to sleep knowing that he took one step and fell on his bum. So today I was expecting the same.
It was a busy morning and I was feeling frenzied. I overslept and had to get the laundry done, prepare Dallen's lunch as well as get the hubs something to eat before he heads off to school and I was running outta time. So we ate, the hubs went off to school, I hung up the laundry, swept the walkway, did the dishes, put the chicken in a pot to cook soup for tonight's dinner, bathe the baby (all these in 2 hours) and finally took a seat on the sofa. Or should I say I collapsed on the sofa. Then, as usual, Dallen started crawling towards me and then he stopped, putting a tiny distance between him and myself, stood up and took a step. Fully expecting him to fall like he usually does, wat he did next took me by surprise. He took another step and still did not fall! He simply stood there, as though tired out by the effort. I couldn't believe my eyes! It's such a wonderful feeling. All this while I held my breath in anticipation and he just fell. Today, I wasn't in the best state of mind and totally not expecting it and he walked! Oh my!!! Soon, he'll be running around the house on his pair of chubby legs! :)

Worrisome!

Being in a marriage brings with it lotsa factors to consider. And recently, I do have cause for concern when the hubs' health took a turn for the worse. This has been going on for so long and not only did it not improve, it seems to have gotten worse. I can't wait to go back to SG next week so we can have him properly diagnosed and hopefully treated and recovered. I'm hoping it's a mild nerve issue which can be treated by medication. If long-term treatment is required, then complications will set in as we will then have to inform SAF. I do hope it needs not come to that and that the road to recovery can be swift and easy.
Leaving it in the hands of the Lord.

Shakey Shake Shake

Our small family of 3 were having dinner when suddenly there was a loud sound coming from upstairs and the house began to shook. The shaking was worse than the tremors we felt in SG and the water on the table looks like it's bubbling. The hubs and I stood still for a while, waiting for the shaking to stop. When it subsided but didn't stop, we scooped Dallen and left the house. One of the neighbours was already at the gate hurrying us to come out of the house. "Please come out! Earthquake!" This ibu is really nice. She's always looking out for us and when we went back to SG the last time, she was afraid something happened to us cos she didn't see us for a while. We were away for 10 days and didn't inform her. So she came by to check on us.
Not much damage sustained during this short 5 seconds or so, except one of the scaffolding for the roof got dislodged. Dunno if the landlord will get it fixed or if we have to fix it ourselves. Oh well, at least this is not as bad as the first earthquake which took place in Jogja in 2006. Let's hope there won't be a worse one and that Mt. Merapi doesn't erupt.

Woohoo!

Stepped on the weighing scale today and guess wat?! I dropped another kilo and has managed to get rid of ALL (yes! all!) that pregnancy weight I put on. After one long year, I finally shed those dreaded kilos! This didn't come easy, of cos. The hubs bought me a treadmill (a worthy investment) and I've been on it religiously. I was afraid to stop jogging, lest the weighing scale shows an undesired number. So yes...from 3km, I have steadily increased the distance to 6km and in just a month and a half, I see results. Never have I lost so much weight (minus the period of depression) in my life. Putting on weight is more my forte...haha. Cos I love to eat and hate to exercise. But seeing as how the baggage refused to budge, I knew I had to do something about it before I hit the big 6! And I was damn near it. With just another 1kg, I would have weighed in at 60kg. Hefty! I couldn't allow that to happen. So I garnered my strength and whatever self-discipline I have and got on the treadmill.
Whoopie!!! The feeling is darn great! And to think I wanted to give jogging a miss yesterday. But yesterday was not a productive run. Having stopped running for the few days that Dallen was sick, I felt myself weakened and only managed to do 4km. Not good. *shakes head* I shall try to do 7km today. Can the 2 sleepyheads in the household please wake up soon so I can switch on the treadmill and torture myself??

My Poor Baby (cont'd)

On Monday afternoon, the fever peaked at 39 degree celsius and I didn't wanna wait anymore. I didn't want it to reach 40 degree celsius and risk a brain damage. So off to the hospital we went and the doctor wanted to do a blood test for suspected dengue fever. Dengue fever in this part of the world is common and just to be on the safe side, we went ahead with the blood test.
The next 15 minutes or so broke my heart. I witnessed the nurse poking a needle into my baby's arm and when she couldn't detect the vessel, she poked several times more and just wedged the needle left and right. Dallen cried ever so loudly, pleading at me with his eyes to carry him away. I felt so helpless and that I have betrayed his trust. That look in his eyes got to me and almost caused me to tear. He cried and cried till no sound came out of him. My poor baby! Just as we managed to calm him down, the nurse said she needed to draw blood again! Oh man! Another ordeal for Dallen in the short span of 5 minutes! I wished I was the one who is sick. They can cut me open for all I care. But I couldn't take Dallen's place and he just had to go through with it. But he was a brave boy. As soon as we stepped out of the lab, he stopped crying.

Now that the fever is gone, it left in its wake spots. Spots which made Dallen look so uncomfortable. Spots which I suspected was chicken pox. But I've been assured that this is normal after a viral fever. So we'll just have to wait it out. Now that the worst is over, I can breathe easier.

My Poor Baby

It's been 3 days and the fever that seized my baby is still going strong. We first realised that he's a bit warmer than usual on Friday. But since that doesn't really constitute a fever, we let it go and did nothing. By Saturday, he was really burning (which means Des and I didn't get to sleep). So paracetamol was administered. But that did not help and by Sunday, the fever has escalated to a high one. So paracetamol was replaced by brufen. The PD instructed that brufen is to be given only if the fever exceeds 38.5 degree celsius and Dallen's temperature once clocked in at 38.6 degree celsius. He was kept in an air-con room and given several wipes to bring down the temperature. I made barley and bought watermelon and let him soak in his tub. After mass on Sunday, we lighted a candle for him and whether it's all the measures we took or that candle we lighted (which we'll never know), his fever began to subside and by Sunday evening, it was beginning to look as if the fever has bade farewell and left for good. Alas, this was not to be. He started burning again this morning and is now refusing food. He only wants to sleep. My poor baby! When will this damn fever stop??!! Shoo! Go away!
