Bali Trip * 4 - 7 July 2008

When we landed on the tarmac floor of the Denpasar airport, we were tired and grouchy. Hubby and I didn't sleep the night before cos if we did, we would have to wake up at 3am to prepare to leave for the airport. So we decided to not sleep and just head for the airport. There, our waiting game began.

Our flight was at 0705 hours; so we're supposed to check-in at 0505 hours. So we walked around a bit, smoked and headed for the counter at 0500 hours. There was already some passengers waiting there. But no staff was in sight! You would have thought they'd be there preparing for the check-in. But no! There was none to be spotted and so we continued to wait. 0515 hours, still nobody. 0520 hours, the staff began to stroll in leisurely. Then they went about setting up the counter and checking their grooming! *faint* Isn't that supposed to be done BEFORE they even step out? There they were, tying their hair, checking their make-up and wasting our time!

When we finally gets to check-in, the crew was a group of China gals who gave conflicting information about our connecting flights in Jakarta.

So we went on our jolly way and reached Jakarta. The first flight touched down about half an hour earlier than scheduled and thus prolonged our waiting time for the connecting flight to Denpasar. From a one hour wait, the time stretched to 2 hours and the flight was late for take-off. Half-way through the wait, my nose started to run and that made me even more grouchy. Waiting is bad enough (I'm not a person who likes to wait). To wait when my nose is acting up is torturous.

We were picked up by the hotel transfer and reached Conrad without much delay as there was no jam. But then, we had to wait again! Cos we reached before 1400 hours and the hotel was full. So they couldn't let us check-in early, which I don't blame them. So we met up with Sashi (who was going off cos his mum and aunts were also in Bali and they were on the same flight as us) for a brief chat. It wasn't too long a wait and we just walked around the hotel, trying to orientate ourselves. The property was beatiful! I fell in love with it almost instantly and my mood lifted somewhat. So we checked in slightly after 1400 hours and the GM's assistant arranged for a bottle of champagne for us! How nice! But I could do with less of the VIP attention. Everywhere we went in the hotel, it seems like everyone knew we were on our honeymoon. From the check-in, to breakfast, to spa. It was quite embarrassing.

We unpacked a little, popped the champagne and sat at the balcony sipping our bubbly. Shortly after, we got changed and headed out. We wanted to go for a massage but the couple's room was fully booked so we arranged for a full spa treatment (i.e. massage, body scrub, body treatment with yogurt, flower bath and facial) the next day. We changed our plans and went to town instead.

All we did the next few days was just eat, suntan, walked around a lot and did a lot of purchases, especially DVDs and I managed to get the full set of SATC! Haha... We wanted to go snorkelling but the sea was too choppy and the hotel staff didn't allow us to go. So we settled for jet ski instead.

On one of the nights out in town, Hubby and I wanted to go get a tattoo. I was so excited cos I've always wanted to get one but was afraid of the pain. But turned out it was too expensive so we gave it a miss.

Although we only had 2 meals day, Hubby and I put on a lot of weight. We had a full breakfast everyday cos the buffet in the hotel was good. Dinner was always good and cos the first 2 nights we had seafood, we decided to go for Jap food on the last night.

We went to Jimbaran hoping to catch the sunset that everyone was talking about. But as luck would have it, it was too cloudy for us to see the sun. Good thing we managed to catch the sunset when we went for dinner on the first night.

On our last day, we decided to go for a day tour cos our departure flight was at 2035 hours. So we checked-out after breakfast and went on our jolly way. During breakfast, we met Bang Bang (dunno how to spell his name), the owner's son and I decided to go over and say hi, in case he thought I was rude.

So we left the hotel and went for the day tour before going to the airport for our flight back. There, we went back to our waiting game. The flight was late for take-off and cos both Hubby and I were already tired after the past few days, the wait seemed even longer. 4 to 5 hours after we check-in, we finally touched down at Changi International Airport! It felt so damn good to be home finally. The culture in Bali was beginning to piss me off and I miss my little penthouse! Home is still the best! Home sweet home!!!
