Date Night

Friday’s ‘Date Night’ for the hubs and I and we traditionally go out for a nice dinner. Ever since we arrived in Jogja, we’ve more or less been going back to the same few restaurants for our Friday dinners, even though we set out initially to discover restaurants around the state. But we sorta got discouraged cos the variety of cuisine here is….. kinda appalling.

But tonight, the hubs wanted to bring us to Grande Mercure Hotel – a new place. We’ve never been there before and the last review on the website was dated 2008. So on this very wet and cold day, after several tries, we managed to call a cab. The cab came, we boarded it and lo and behold! The driver had no idea what hotel we were talking about. So he suggested another hotel. Thinking that the Grande Mercure might have already closed down (since the review was so long ago), we went along with the driver’s suggestion and ended up at Inna Garuda.
Save for one table of 5 diners in the restaurant, the hotel was empty. The lobby was so quiet you thought the hotel went outta business. Anyway, we made our way to the restaurant, whose name was Marlioboro Coffeeshop. We took a look at the buffet line and was about to walk out when the waiter, sensing we didn’t like the food on the buffet line, showed us the ala-carte menu. I took a look at the menu, see stuff that the lil one could eat and decided to sit down and order dinner. I ordered lamp chops and the hubs had a burger. Turns out, the food wasn’t half bad and we really enjoyed dinner. Great surprise!
