Poor Becak Rider

We went Marlioboro Mall for dinner last night and since it's quite near to one of the supposedly big and cheap shop selling children's stuff, we decided to pop by and take a look. We dun usually go to Marlioboro Mall cos it's further away from where we stay and things tend to be more expensive, since it's a tourist area. So since we were there, might as well make the most of it. And so after dinner (teppanyaki for me and cordon bleu for the hubs) at the foodcourt and some books buying for me (which was of utmost importance cos I'm almost done with the 2 books I brought over and the rest had to be left behind cos we were trying to reduce baggage weight!), we went on our jolly way.
Turned out, we couldn't just 'pop by' cos the children's shop is really quite a distance from the mall. But walked we did. And the hubs decided that we should take a becak (a trishaw) for the return league to the mall. It definitely cost less than a cab cos the flagdown fee for a cab was already Rp5500. The becak would have cost us only Rp5000 (or less if we bothered to bargain somemore). In the end, we decided to give the poor rider Rp6000 for his effort. The poor old man had to cycle with a load of 150kg. So I told hubs to give him an extra Rp1000 (which was his asking price in the first place). Rp6000 is equivalent to only about S$1. It means so little to us. But would have meant a lot to him. At least I hope so!
